Money · Grade 5

Skills

  • Handles a small amount of real money over a month without losing track of it.
  • Uses a card or a payment app under supervision, and knows it is spending real money.
  • Splits income deliberately into spending, saving and giving.
  • Waits for a better price or a better option instead of buying immediately.
  • Explains opportunity cost: that money spent here cannot be spent there.
  • Knows why prices rise over time, in simple terms.
  • Knows the difference between a debit card, a credit card and cash — and who is owed what in each case.
  • Knows what insurance is for.
  • Knows that a business must take in more than it spends, and can sketch that for a lemonade stand.
  • Knows why a family cannot buy everything it wants, without shame attached to the fact.
  • Recognises a too-good-to-be-true offer and a pressure tactic ("only 3 left!").
  • Knows never to give money, card details or personal information to a stranger online.
  • Knows what a scam is, names three common ones, and knows that being targeted is not a shameful thing to report.
