Privacy policy
learnCoreSkills is a free practice site for children, written for their parents and teachers. This page explains, in plain language, what information the site handles, who else is involved, and what choices you have. If anything here is unclear, write to us at mail@learncoreskills.com.
Who we are
learnCoreSkills is run from Europe / France. The person responsible for the site can be reached at mail@learncoreskills.com. You can read more on the About page.
What stays on your device
Children do not create accounts. There is no sign-up, no password and no email address collected from a child. When you add a child, only a nickname (an alias), an optional avatar, a birth year or grade, and the child's practice results are stored. All of this is saved in your own browser's local storage, on your own device. We do not receive it, we cannot read it, and we do not keep a copy on a server.
Because the data lives only in your browser, clearing your browser data removes it. The parent area lets you export a child's progress to a file and import it again, for example to move to another device. That file is created on your device and goes only where you choose to save it.
What we collect from visitors
We do not run user accounts, and we do not ask visitors for their name, address or phone number. The only way personal information reaches us is if you write to us by email; in that case we use your message and address only to answer you, and we delete the conversation when it is no longer needed.
Third parties involved
Some content and measurement is provided by other companies. Each may set cookies or use similar identifiers, or receive technical information such as your IP address and browser type:
- Hosting. The site is served as static files by GitHub Pages. GitHub receives ordinary web-server information (such as your IP address) when your browser requests a page.
- Fonts. The typefaces are hosted on our own servers; no request is made to Google Fonts.
- Analytics. We use Google Tag Manager to measure how adult-facing pages are used: the home page (only before a child profile is selected), the parent area, the documentation, the articles and these information pages. It is never loaded once a child is selected, on the skill and activity lists or inside an activity. Before it loads, its storage is set to "denied" by default in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, and it only stores anything there after you agree.
- Advertising. Some parent-facing pages show an ad provided by Google AdSense. Ads appear only below articles, on the lists of skills and activities that parents browse, and on the home page (before a child is selected). On a first visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, a consent message is shown first. They never appear inside an activity, during practice, in the parent progress report or on any screen a child uses to practise.
How advertising works here
This site is designed for children, so we ask Google to treat all ad requests as coming from a child-directed service. In practice this means ads are non-personalised and contextual: they relate to the page, not to a profile of you, and no interest-based advertising or remarketing is used. Google may still use cookies or identifiers for measuring, preventing fraud and limiting how often an ad is shown. You can learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are shown a consent message, provided by Google, before ad or measurement cookies are used. The message is loaded the first time you open a page that can show an ad or is measured, including the home page before a child is selected, and is not loaded while a child is practising. You can reopen it at any time with the "Privacy choices" link in the footer of any page where it is available. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the practice activities work without them.
Children's privacy
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Children's practice data stays on the family's device, as described above. We do not show personalised advertising to children, and we do not show any advertising on pages where children practise. If you are in Quebec, note that commercial advertising directed at children under 13 is prohibited by the Consumer Protection Act and that the Act on the protection of personal information in the private sector (Law 25) governs how personal information is handled; the site keeps ads strictly on pages written for adults and uses only contextual, non-personalised ads. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, the consent message described above applies to you as a parent or teacher using the site.
How long we keep information
We do not hold children's data, so there is nothing for us to retain. Email correspondence is kept only as long as needed to answer you. Third parties named above keep information under their own policies.
Your choices and requests
You can export or delete a child's progress yourself at any time, from the parent area or by clearing your browser's site data. You can refuse or withdraw consent using the footer link or your browser settings. To ask a question, request access to or deletion of anything you sent us, or raise a concern, write to mail@learncoreskills.com. We will answer as soon as we can.
Changes to this policy
When we change how the site handles information, we will update this page. Significant changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
