When something does not work

Progress not saved, a page that will not load, or a message about storage? Quick checks that fix the usual causes, in the order worth trying.

Progress is not being saved

The site shows a message, "Progress may not be saved on this device right now", when it cannot reach its storage in your browser. Take it seriously: results from that visit may be lost. The most common reasons are the following.

  • You are in a private or incognito window, which forgets everything when it closes.
  • The browser blocks site data or cookies, or is set to clear them whenever it closes.
  • A privacy tool, a cleaning app or a school or work setting wipes browser data.

Open the site in a normal window, allow it to keep data, and try again. If your child's profile has disappeared, check that you are in the same browser and on the same device as before. Another browser, or another user account on the computer, has its own separate data. If you have an exported file, you can restore a profile from the Parent Area.

A page does not load

Start with the simple things. Check your internet connection, then refresh the page. If one page fails, go back to the home page and navigate from there. If you opened an old bookmark or a link that was shared with you, try the home page, since an address may have changed. Trying another browser, or restarting the device, solves most remaining cases. Documentation and articles show a short "temporarily unavailable" message if they cannot be fetched, so wait a moment and try again.

It loads slowly

The site loads its content over the internet, so a slow connection can mean a short wait, especially the first time you open something. Moving to a stronger Wi-Fi signal, closing other tabs and apps that are using the connection, and waiting a few seconds before pressing again all help.

Using it offline

There is no offline mode. The site needs an internet connection to open, and we cannot promise that a session will keep working if the connection drops. If your connection is unreliable, open the activity while you are connected and stay on that screen. For travel, the printable mental-maths sheet is a good alternative: print or save it as a PDF beforehand.

Still stuck

Try a different browser, make sure it is up to date, and try again. If something remains unexplained, the Contact page tells you how to write to us. Please tell us the device, the browser and what you saw on screen. Meanwhile, if your child's progress matters to you, export a backup file from the Parent Area first.
